Carolina Phoenix Builders was founded by Dale Black after thirty years experience with IBM in marketing, development, and manufacturing. While with IBM, Dale Black built homes in Ohio, New York, Georgia, and North Carolina over a period of 12 years. With an MBA degree from the University of Dayton, a Mechanical Engineering (BS-ME) degree from North Carolina State University and an Associate Degree in Design from Penn State, Dale Black felt comfortable formulating Carolina Living Builders, Inc. in April, 1989. In early 1999, Carolina Living Builders changed names and became Carolina Phoenix Builders.

    Dale Black was born into the building industry. His father was a general subcontractor and his uncles were plumbing and heating contractors. Dale began tackling big projects by jumping in and getting the job done.

    Today, as founder and president of Charlotte-based Carolina Phoenix Builders, Dale no longer draws home designs on napkins. Instead, he now works with renowned residential design firms including Christopher Phelps and Associates, L.L.C, and Studio C. The custom homes Carolina Phoenix builds range from 4,500 to more than 10,000 square feet. Most are priced between $1 and $3 million.

    Carolina Phoenix homes are distinguished not only by the visual appeal of their designs but also the integrity of their construction. "We pride ourselves on the fact that we do not skimp on materials or structure, building with steel as well as wood for more strength," says Dale. "Our walls, flooring and windows are selected with care and installed with precision," he says. "And our solid construction means efficiency, providing the home owner with energy efficiency as well as substantial cost savings. In short, our homes represent the optimum combination of form and fitness."

    Carolina Phoenix Builders has built homes in Ballantyne, High Gate, Piper Glen, Peninsula, River Run, Firethorne, Longview and the Palisades. Carolina Phoenix Builders is currently building in these areas now. This acceptance as a builder with over 17 years incorporation is a testament to our knowledge and experience in this industry as well as our financial status.

    Several family members have a vested interest in the company, as well. Two of Dale Black's sons have been with the company since the late 1980's and early 1990's. Also, one of their daughters has joined the ranks with the family business. She has been working in the front office with Patricia Black in maintaining the business' financials.  As you can see, this family-run business engages most of the Black family. Carolina Phoenix Builders utilizes a computerized cost/administration system that provides the monitoring and control of costs in a professional manner.

    We feel that our growth and success is attributable to two factors. One is quality and the second is hands-on management of our business. These two factors, the marketing strategy, our experience, and the financial position of our company will allow growth in the future Charlotte area.
